Abu Shaheen criticizes Arab silence, Intel complicity amid W Bank aggression
[29/ August/2024]
RAMALLAH August 29. 2024 (Saba) - Sheikh Ali Abu Shaheen, a member of the Political Bureau of the Islamic Jihad Movement in Palestine, has denounced the ongoing military aggression in the occupied West Bank, describing it as an exploitation of Arab inaction and collusion.

In a press statement released Wednesday night, Abu Shaheen asserted that the aggression, which he claims has U.S. and Western backing, is designed to undermine the Palestinian people’s resolve, committing severe violence to force a surrender, and to alter the geographical and demographic landscape.

He highlighted that this offensive seeks to extend control over Jerusalem's holy sites.

Abu Shaheen likened the West Bank operations to the severe military campaign in Gaza, calling it the most intense since 2002.

He condemned the extensive damage, including attacks on infrastructure, hospitals, mosques, and the ongoing campaigns of arrests and assassinations.

The Islamic Jihad leader pointed to statements from Israeli officials as evidence of a broader plan to create new realities on the ground, including potential annexation of the West Bank and demographic shifts that could lead to mass displacement.

Criticizing the Arab world's silence, Abu Shaheen also held the international community accountable for its failure to uphold principles of international law and human rights, accusing it of passivity that effectively supports the aggression against Palestinians.

He urged the Palestinian Authority to reassess its strategies, emphasizing the need for a more assertive stance, including halting security coordination, to confront the aggression and defend Palestinian rights.
