
LUKE August 29. 2024 (Saba) - Uruguay's Darwin Núñez has been handed a five-match suspension by the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) following incidents involving clashes with fans after Uruguay's defeat to Colombia in the Copa America this July.
This disciplinary action also extends to several of his teammates: Rodrigo Bentancur has been suspended for four matches, while Ronald Araújo, José María Giménez, and Matías Oliveira each face three-match suspensions.
These sanctions will affect Uruguay's upcoming fixtures in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
The affected matches include games against Paraguay and Venezuela in September, Peru and Ecuador in October, and Colombia and Brazil in November.
