DAMASCUS August 28. 2024 (Saba) - First Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the United Nations Dmitry Polansky said on Wednesday that Russia demands an end to air strikes on Syria. They hinder efforts to reach a political settlement in the country.
Polanski was quoted by TASS news agency at a UN Security Council session as saying: "Ending the foreign military presence that violates Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity is essential to achieving sustainable stability in this country."
"We also demand an unconditional cessation of airstrikes on Syrian territory. Therefore, all efforts to reach a political settlement in the country are doomed to failure."
He stressed that the key to peace in Syria could be through "the West's renunciation of its stubborn positions against Damascus and the establishment of normal, equal and mutually respectful relations with the Syrian Arab Republic". We hope that these moves will continue.
"All Syrians will benefit from this and so will we," Polanski concluded.
