SEOUL August 24. 2024 (Saba) - North Korea vowed on Saturday to bolster its nuclear capabilities in response to a report that the United States has revised its nuclear strategy plan.
The North's official Korean Central News Agency reported that North Korea will "strengthen its strategic power by all means to control and eliminate all forms of security challenges that may arise from Washington's revised plan."
The agency said that the North's foreign ministry "expresses grave concern and strongly condemns and rejects the behavior of the United States."
It added that North Korea pledged to move forward in building a nuclear force sufficient and reliable enough to firmly defend its sovereignty.
The New York Times reported this week that a US plan approved by President Joe Biden last March calls for preparing for possible coordinated nuclear confrontations with Russia, China and North Korea.
It added that the top-secret plan reorients the US deterrent strategy for the first time to focus on China's rapid expansion of its nuclear arsenal.
