Youth Minister meets with National Youth Football Team

SANA'A August 18. 2024 (Saba) – Minister of Youth and Sports Dr. Mohammed al-Mawalad on Sunday met with the national youth football team and its technical and administrative staff in the capital Sana'a.

The meeting took place while the team is in an internal preparatory camp at the Youth House in Sana'a, gearing up for the Asian qualifiers starting next September in Indonesia.

The qualifiers will see the national team compete in Group Six alongside Indonesia, East Timor, and the Maldives.

Minister al-Mawalad commended the players for their dedication and discipline despite the challenging conditions due to the ongoing conflict.

He encouraged the team to maintain their high level of preparation and strive for a qualification spot in the Asian finals, drawing inspiration from Yemen's past achievements, including the 2003 World Cup finals appearance in Finland and two West Asian Cup victories.

The Minister emphasized the importance of sportsmanship and upholding Yemeni values, and reassured the team of the ministry's continued support.

He also acknowledged the backing of the revolutionary leadership, the Supreme Political Council, and the government in nurturing youth and athletic talent.

The meeting, attended by Undersecretary Ali Hadban and other youth and sports officials, also saw Director Ahmed al-Jaadi praised the Ministry’s efforts in supporting the team’s preparation, which he believes will positively impact their performance in upcoming competitions.
