Measures to confront flood damage, reduce its effects in Sana'a discussed

SANA'A August 17. 2024 (Saba) - The Emergency Committee in Sana'a province on Saturday discussed in its meeting, headed by the Governor - Chairman of the Committee, Abdul-Basit al-Hadi, the measures to reduce the effects of rain floods on homes, roads and agricultural lands in the province.

The meeting, which included the Deputy Governor for the Services Sector - Deputy Chairman of the Emergency Committee, Fares al-Kuhali, and members of the committee, reviewed the emergency interventions and rapid response to address the damage caused by floods.

The attendees discussed the means to provide emergency response in various affected areas and work mechanisms to avoid any losses and damages in many sites and areas across the province's districts'

The meeting reviewed the measures to reduce the effects of lightning, by holding a workshop implemented by the cooperative sector associations, the materials of which are prepared by the Civil Defense, Health and Agriculture Branch, to raise awareness of the importance of adhering to safety procedures during rainfall accompanied by lightning.

The meeting approved the obligation of local telecommunications companies to install lightning grounding devices to mitigate their effects, in coordination with the Ministry of Communications.

It also approved the conduct of a study to establish more barriers, caravans and flood equipment in the districts of the ring to reduce the speed of the flow of rainwater to the governorate center and the capital secretariat.

It was approved to develop a plan for the flow of rainwater from Hezyaz to Dar Salam area and other affected neighborhoods, and to work on completing the flood drainage channel in al-Andalos neighborhood to 50th Street.

Regarding rock collapses during the rainy seasons in al-Ushash area, it was approved to confront this by creating gibbons, and to assign the Public Works Office to work on the estimated cost and start building them.

In the meeting, Governor al-Hadi stressed the importance of emergency interventions to address the effects of floods and help those affected, stressing that the response should be consistent with the extent of the damage caused by floods and rain.

Al-Hadi pointed out the importance of the availability of shelter and relief materials, which allows the concerned authorities and humanitarian partners in the governorate to quickly address any emergency, calling for concerted efforts to provide more support.
