UN: Enemy conducted 21 attacks on schools sheltering displaced Palestinians since July 4
[10/ August/2024]
NEW YORK August 10. 2024 (Saba) - The United Nations Human Rights Office has reported that the enemy has carried out 21 attacks on schools housing displaced Palestinians in the Gaza Strip since July 4.

The office condemned the recent targeting of al-Tabeen school, which resulted in hundreds of casualties.

In a press statement, the office highlighted that this attack marks the 21st incident involving a school, each serving as a shelter, leading to the deaths of at least 274 people, including women and children.

The UN criticized Israel for repeatedly striking shelters in areas where civilians had been forced to relocate, noting that these actions reflect a failure to comply with international humanitarian law, particularly regarding the principles of distinction, proportionality, and precautions in attacks.

The statement emphasized that these systematic attacks occur amid the displacement of more than 90% of Gaza’s population, as the Israeli military continues to bomb residential buildings and restrict humanitarian aid.

The displaced face extreme hardships, including multiple forced displacements, widespread disease and a lack of access to basic necessities. For many, schools are their last refuge, offering some hope for shelter, food, and water.
