PARIS August 09. 2024 (Saba) – Algerian runner Jamal Sajati has secured a spot in the final of the 800-meter race at the Paris 2024 Olympics by winning the first semi-final on Friday.

Sajati completed the race with a time of 1:45.08 minutes.

Unfortunately, fellow Algerian Mohamed Ali Qwand did not advance, finishing last in his semi-final with a time of 1:46.52 minutes.

The semi-finals did not feature any major surprises, with all the expected favorites advancing to the final.

Among them are Sajati, Canadian world champion Marco Arop, and Kenyan Emmanuel Wanyonyi, who holds the world’s top ranking.

Wanyonyi qualified with the fastest time of 1:43.32 minutes, outpacing American Bryce Hubbell, the world indoor champion.

Also advancing to the final are French runner Gabriel Toal, the European champion, and Botswana’s Tshepiso Masalela.

Masalela aims to secure his country's second gold in athletics following Letsile Tebogo’s victory in the men’s 200 meters on Thursday.

The final race is set for Saturday, where Kenya will be represented by Wanyonyi and Arop, while Wycliffe Kinyamale of Kenya did not qualify, finishing third in his semi-final behind Arop and Toal.
