KHARTOUM August 07. 2024 (Saba) - At least 17 people were killed and hundreds of homes collapsed due to heavy rains that swept through the city of Abu Hamad northeast Sudan on Tuesday.
Agence France-Presse quoted a Sudanese medical source as saying that many of the injured are still arriving at the hospital in this city located in the Nile State, which is located 400 km north of Khartoum.
Heavy rains usually fall in Sudan between May and October of each year, a period during which the country witnesses dangerous floods that damage homes, infrastructure and crops.
Last week, heavy rains left five dead in Port Sudan, on the east coast, while humanitarian organizations warned that heavy rains and floods will lead to the isolation of entire areas.
