Wide participation in Yemeni Honey & Bee Products National Festival in Sana'a

SANA'A August 07. 2024 (Saba) - The third season of the National Festival of Yemeni Honey and Bee Products is witnessing an official presence and wide participation from beekeepers, producers, Yemeni companies specialized in honey production, and agricultural cooperatives from various provinces.

More than 75 participants, including 10 agricultural cooperatives, productive families, and a number of companies specialized in honey production, are participating in the activities of the festival, which was organized by the Honey Production Unit of the Supreme Agricultural and Fisheries Committee and the Agriculture and Irrigation Ministry with community contribution.

The Secretary-General of the Agricultural Cooperative Union, Eng. Mohammed Al-Qahoum, explained that ten agricultural cooperatives from Al-Mahwit, Hajjah, Sa'ada, Al-Hodeida, and Amran, with funding from the Agricultural and Fisheries Production Promotion Fund and the sponsorship of the Supreme Agricultural and Fisheries Committee, participated in the National Festival of Yemeni Honey activities .

Al-Qahoum considered the festival an opportunity for associations to market their honey products locally , internationally , to highlight the brands and products of the finest types of Yemeni honey from 11 types in large quantities exceeding 17 tons.

He stated that the number of beekeepers in Yemen exceeds three thousand , 815 beekeepers, and there are 50 field guidance schools to raise beekeepers' awareness of the importance of bee wealth, how to deal with bees, the sorting , packaging process, and other skills that benefit beekeepers.

He touched on the establishment of 10 nature reserves through cooperative associations to preserve the vegetation cover, and the conclusion of agreements to prevent excessive logging to encourage beekeepers to expand beekeeping and enhance local awareness of the importance of honey production as a source of economic development, and to restore the status of Yemeni honey to achieve self-sufficiency in production.

The National Yemeni Honey Festival, which is being held in Al-Sab’een Park in the capital, Sana’a, under the slogan “Yemen is the Home of Honey,” aims to revive the status of Yemeni honey and promote the marketing of Yemeni brands globally.
