[05/ August/2024]
DHAKA August 05. 2024 (Saba) - Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh resigned from her post and fled the country on Monday, following a month of violent protests demanding her resignation.

Army Commander General Waqar Zaman confirmed Hasina's resignation in a speech on state television, emphasizing that the army is now working to form an interim government.

Sources close to the matter reported that the ousted prime minister escaped Dhaka by helicopter after thousands of protesters stormed the prime minister's office.

The violence had escalated significantly, with clashes between demonstrators and pro-government student groups. Protesters hurled stones, while police responded with tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse the crowds.

The situation reached a critical point on Sunday, with 93 protesters killed in the violence.

By Monday, the events had accelerated, leading to Sheikh Hasina's departure from Bangladesh and the end of her 15-year rule, following over a month of demonstrations that resulted in hundreds of deaths.
