NEW DELHI July 30. 2024 (Saba) - Indian authorities said on Tuesday that at least ten people were killed by landslides in India caused by heavy monsoon rains early today, amid fears that hundreds were trapped under the dust.
According to Indian media, the disaster occurred as heavy rains fell on the southern state of Kerala.
Local reports say relief efforts are being challenged by the collapse of a major bridge in Wayanad province, and at least ten people have so far been confirmed dead, according to a provincial official.
India's military said it had deployed more than 200 troops to assist local security forces and fire brigades in search and rescue missions. He said hundreds were suspected of being stuck where the soil slipped.
