WASHINGTON July 27. 2024 (Saba) - US President Joe Biden announced that his country will grant deportation waivers and work permits to more than 11,000 Lebanese citizens already in the United States.
In a memo last night, Biden attributed the decision to the ongoing escalation in southern Lebanon between Hezbollah and the Zionist enemy entity.
Debbie Dingell, a Democratic member of the Michigan House of Representatives, which includes Lebanese-Americans, praised the move, estimating that it will include 11,500 people.
The announcement comes after US Vice President Kamala Harris pressed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu last Thursday to help reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza, adopting a tougher tone than Biden.
Hezbollah , Lebanese and Palestinian factions have been exchanging daily shelling with Israeli enemy forces since October 8.
