Prisoners’ bodies: 9,700 arrests in W Bank since October 7th

RAMALLAH July 18. 2024 (Saba) - The total number of arrest campaigns in the West Bank, including occupied al-Quds has reached more than 9,700 arrests since the start of the aggression on the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023, according to a statement issued by the prisoners’ bodies.

A joint statement published by the Palestinian Information Center for the Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Affairs Authority, the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club, and Addameer Prisoner Care and Human Rights Foundation said the total number of arrests among women reached more than 330, indicating that this tally does not include women who were arrested from Gaza.

Prisoners' institutions explained that the number of arrests among children reached at least 675, while the number of arrests among journalists reached 89 journalists, of whom 51 remain in detention, including six female journalists, and at least 16 journalists from Gaza whose identities we were able to confirm. Noting that among the journalists, 17 are under administrative detention.

With regard to administrative detention, administrative detention orders since the start of the genocide war have amounted to more than 7,500 orders, including new orders and renewal orders, including orders against children and women.

Prisoners' institutions indicated that the ongoing arrest campaigns are accompanied by escalating crimes and violations, including: torture, severe beatings, and threats against detainees and their families, in addition to widespread sabotage and destruction of citizens' homes, confiscation of vehicles, money, and gold jewelry, in addition to widespread destruction operations, which specifically affected the infrastructure in the Tulkarm, Jenin and Jenin camps, and the demolition of homes belonging to families of prisoners.
