HODEIDA July 07. 2024 (Saba) - A team from the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, the Supreme Agricultural and Fisheries Committee, and the Cooperative and Agricultural Union branch in Hodeida province carried out a field visit to the date collection points of agricultural cooperative societies in Al-Durayhimi, Bayt Al-Faqih and Al-Tuhaita districts.
The team, consisting of the representative of the Supreme Committee, Nashwan Thawab, the Deputy Director General of Marketing at the Ministry, Salem Zayed, and the head of the Union branch in the province, Ahmed Al-Haij, reviewed the collection points and production quantities of dates in the areas of Al-Nakhila, Al-Jah, and Al-Suwaiq in the three directorates in preparation for starting the marketing process in accordance with the contracts concluded between merchants and agricultural associations.
Date chain officer at the Agricultural Committee, Abdul Rahman Hazza, explained that the visit aimed to evaluate the quantities of dates and the extent of the associations and farmers’ commitment to proper drying standards , methods to improve the product , enhance its position to achieve self-sufficiency and reduce the import bill.
He praised the efforts of the leadership of the Supreme Agricultural , Fisheries Committee and the local authority in the province to pay attention to date farmers , absorb their products among merchants and importers through associations.
