Awareness event, opening of exhibition on occasion of World Anti-Drug Day held

SANA'A July 06. 2024 (Saba) - The General Department of Narcotics Control at the Ministry of Interior on Saturday organized an awareness event titled "The Role of National Media in Combating Drugs," and inaugurated an exhibition on the occasion of World Anti-Drug Day.

The event, attended by caretaker Minister of Guidance Hajj and Umrah Affairs Najeeb al-Ajji, stressed the importance of everyone’s cooperation in combating drugs that target society in general and youth in particular.

He stressed the necessity of informing society of the dangers of drugs through awareness-raising events and activities.

He said, 'We are in a battle with the Americans and their tools, and the Americans are focusing in Yemen on corrupting the youth because they saw the momentum of them setting out for the sake of God and standing against the American-Saudi aggression, so they deliberately targeted the areas that are considered a base for the Qur’anic project with narcotic hashish.'"

Deputy Minister of Interior Abdulmajeed al-Murtada praised the great efforts made by the General Administration for Combating Narcotics in combating, controlling, and rehabilitating those involved in this aspect, which is considered destruction and crime.

Meanwhile, Director General of Narcotics Control Brig. Gen. Akram Amer revealed the arrangement to destroy about 40 tons of drugs during the next week."

Col. Aiban al-Radi, Director of the Anti-Narcotics Training and Rehabilitation Department at the Ministry of Interior, highlighted that the ministry's leadership and staff firmly believe that drugs in Yemen are not merely a commodity but rather a critical aspect of the ongoing conflict affecting Yemenis.

For his part, cultural activist Hassan al-Hadi stressed the need for society to cooperate with the security services in combating the drug phenomenon that targets everyone without exception, including young people.

He called for everyone's concerted efforts to combat this devastating phenomenon for individuals and societies.

A statement issued by the General Department of Narcotics Control at the Ministry of Interior reviewed the security achievements in combating drug smuggling, stressing that more than 26 tons of narcotic hashish, more than 148,000 narcotic pills, and four kilos of shabu were seized.

The statement indicated that more than four kilograms of heroin and more than 19 million ampoules of narcotic drugs were seized, as well as 2,366 people accused of drug smuggling, and 13 members of the armed and security forces were promoted while performing their national duty.

The Narcotics Control Administration confirmed its continued confrontation of mafia and drug gangs at home or abroad and uncovering all smuggling methods.
