RAMALLAH July 01. 2024 (Saba) - The Palestinian Prisoners' Club has condemned the use of civilians and detainees as human shields by Israeli forces, labeling it as a systematic Zionist policy.
The organization asserted that the use of civilians and detainees as human shields has been ongoing throughout the occupation of Palestine.
In a statement released today, Monday, the Club highlighted that the videos showing the Israeli army using citizens as human shields are part of an ongoing and renewed approach.
This practice is another facet of the ongoing genocide against the people in Gaza, revealing the true nature and increasing brutality of the occupation.
The statement emphasized that all recorded crimes, including war crimes and severe violations of international humanitarian laws and norms, are not new in the history of the occupation.
Rather, they are consistent and systematic policies and tools of the occupation.
The historical inability to halt these crimes has been the main reason for their continuation and escalation to this day.
The Club pointed out that since the beginning of the genocide, the level of crimes committed against detainees and their families has been unprecedented.
This is confirmed by the testimonies of hundreds of released detainees and prisoners, as well as those visited by legal teams.
The Palestinian Prisoners' Club noted that the increasing evidence and clear proofs of the occupation’s crimes in all forms present a significant humanitarian challenge to the human rights system.
This challenge grows as the occupation continues its limitless and boundary-less crimes.
The Club mentioned that the number of arrests from Gaza is estimated to be in the thousands, indicating that the occupation has employed enforced disappearance against them, along with systematic torture and unprecedented levels of assaults, including sexual violence that has reached the level of rape.
The Palestinian Prisoners' Club reiterated its call for the international human rights system to regain its necessary role and to end the state of incapacity that affects the entire human community.
It stressed that the current phase, with its significant changes, requires corresponding changes in the work of the international human rights system to effectively curb the escalating Israeli brutality.
