UN Rapporteur: What happening in Gaza can only be described as genocide
[28/ June/2024]
GENEVA June 28. 2024 (Saba) - The United Nations Special Rapporteur on the right to health, Telaling Movukeng, has said groups of people were literally exterminated in Gaza Strip, and no other term than "genocide" can be used to describe what is happening there.

"People in Gaza are trying to survive, and that's the only thing they can really do," she told Anadolu Agency on the sidelines of her participation in the fifty-sixth session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.

She stated that mental health of Gaza people had deteriorated, and the civilians were suffering more serious trauma as a result of the constant Zionist bombardment.

She noted that information on the recent state of health facilities in Gaza continues to come from WHO and other aid organizations in this area.

Gaza hospitals inability to receive essential medical supplies and medicines, and the killing and harassment of health-care workers in the line of duty, make attacks on the right to health even more pronounced, said the UN rapporteur.

She said she could not predict how long it would take to rebuild the health infrastructure in the Strip.

Movukeng explained the importance of arguing that what happened in Gaza was "genocide" and then trying people for certain crimes at the International Court of Justice.
