GAZA June 13. 2024 (Saba) - The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) warned on Thursday of the catastrophic environmental and health risks due to the accumulation of more than 330,000 tons of waste in populated areas throughout Gaza Strip.
“There are more than 330,000 tons of waste accumulated in populated areas throughout the Gaza Strip, which poses catastrophic environmental and health risks,” UNRWA said in a statement on the “X” platform, noting that “children are searching daily in garbage ".
The organization stressed that "unimpeded humanitarian access and a ceasefire are crucial to restoring humanitarian living conditions in the Strip."
It is worth noting that Gaza Municipality crews are collecting and transporting waste from Al-Shaaf Street in Al-Tuffah neighborhood, east of the city, as part of a project implemented by the municipality to collect and transport waste in cooperation with the Arab Authority for the Reconstruction of Palestine.
