MOSCOW June 13. 2024 (Saba) - The Russian army began using a new ammunition in the special military operation area, which is a hovering guided bomb with a diameter of 30 centimeters, which is considered unique.
Russian news agencies reported on Thursday that it was a floating bomb, weighing 250 kilograms, equipped with a trajectory adjustment unit, and published a photograph showing the bomb being thrown from a Su-34 bomber. That photo was taken at a distance of 50 km from the front line.
It explained that this 300 mm ammunition can be launched from the “Smerch” rocket launcher equipped with 12 pipes that can launch missiles to a distance of 100 km. It was developed in 1987 in the Soviet Union, and it can also be launched from the modern “Tornado” rocket launchers with an operating range of 120 km. km, and it can also be increased up to 200 km.
It is noteworthy that the American-made "HIMARS" system, which also uses highly accurate guided missiles, has only six barrels, and the capacity of its missiles is less because its caliber is 227 mm. This means that the area of the attack is twice as small as that of the Russian "Tornado".
HIMARS can launch its missiles to a distance of 80 km, while experts say that the operating range of this system can theoretically reach 300 km, but in order to aim at 300 km, it must use ATACMS Block IA ammunition. А РСЗО special tactical equipment is not available in the possession of the Ukrainian army.
