GAZA June 12. 2024 (Saba) - The spokesperson for the World Food Program in the Middle East, Abeer Atifa, said on Wednesday, that food security in the Gaza Strip is approaching dangerous levels, and that famine has begun to strike again in the northern Gaza Strip.
She added in press statements reported by the Palestinian "Sanad" News Agency: "Famine has returned again to northern Gaza in light of the strict and tight closure of the Strip's crossings as a result of the ongoing Israeli military operation in Rafah.
She explained that the accurate figures indicate that the citizens lack the basic needs of food supplies, and that aid does not reach them to the extent that prevents famine from occurring.
She stated that the northern Gaza Strip has begun to witness a new wave of famine, after the first wave that caused many deaths among citizens, and also caused severe damage to children, women, pregnant women and others.
Atefa stressed that the humanitarian and relief conditions in the Strip are extremely dangerous and catastrophic to a large extent, which means that the Strip is facing a major humanitarian threat.
She stressed the need to stop the fighting, end the war and open the crossings; to ensure the arrival of aid.. pointing out once again that no alternative to land corridors can be achieved in delivering aid.
