Euro-Mediterranean reveals atrocities committed by Nazi enemy against prisoners, detainees from Gaza
[12/ June/2024]
GAZA June 12. 2024 (Saba) - The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights monitor reported that it has received new testimonies from Palestinian detainees released from Zionist prisons and detention centers confirming the continued Commission of crimes of violent torture and inhuman treatment against thousands of civilians who were systematically detained as part of the genocide carried out by the Israeli army in the Gaza Strip since the seventh of last October.

The Euro-Mediterranean observatory called on international justice institutions and the international community to break the circle of silence and express strict positions and take serious steps towards the unfolding brutal torture based on discrimination, collective retaliation and dehumanization of Palestinian civilians, which has reached the point of murder, rape and other forms of sexual violence, forced injection with unknown substances, and leaving scars and marks on their bodies, stressing the need to oblige Israel to end all its crimes against Palestinian prisoners and detainees, including crimes of torture, inhuman treatment, enforced disappearance.

The Euro-Med pointed out that it followed the release of the Israeli army of dozens of detainees on Tuesday, June 11, from the "Zikim" area in the northern Gaza Strip, and during the moment of their release, the Israeli army fired at them, and forced them to walk and jog hundreds of meters so that they could reach populated areas, where they arrived in a deplorable state as a result of fatigue, which worsened the health condition they are already suffering from as a result of being subjected to torture and violence throughout the detention period, and 33 of them arrived at "Kamal Adwan" hospital in Beit Lahiya in the northern Gaza Strip for treatment.

In his statement to the Euro-Mediterranean team, the released detainee "Samir Abdullah Jamal Marjan, 23, confirmed that he was severely beaten, subjected to electric shocks, insults and an attempt to inject him with unknown substances, where he said: "the Israeli army arrested me on March 11, 2024, from Nabulsi checkpoint southwest of Gaza, during my attempt to flee to the south, and they transferred me to a detention center off Rafah for two months and then I was transferred to Ashkelon prison and spent two months there.

In the marduan (corridor) I and the other prisoners lived difficult days. Every day we were brutally tortured from beatings and insults, as well as using dogs to attack us, intimidate us, and use electricity to torture. In Ashkelon prison, the situation was worse, I was in a solitary cell and I was without food for 12 days.

During the interrogation, they used electric shocks to get confessions and asked us about Hamas and the tunnels, and when I say I don't know, I am a civilian and I don't know about other things, I am beaten. The interrogation was accompanied by brutal assaults and torture and we were subjected to interrogation every ten days. In prison, I witnessed the suffering of others whose health condition deteriorated and worsened, and even they became ill there without medical attention, in addition, the army gave some prisoners anonymous injections. I refused to be injected with it and because of that I was beaten and subjected to electric torture. The torture continued throughout the detention. Yesterday, because I was late in the bathroom, one of the officers came and electrocuted me, and the traces of this are still present in my body, even the bathroom is calculated by a certain time, if I am late for four minutes, you will be exposed to electricity. I was surprised when they told me last night that I would be released, I could not sleep from joy, then they took us and dropped us off at Zikim and shot our surroundings,"he said.

In another statement to "Amr Abdel Fattah al-Aklouk", a resident of the Gaza Strip, who was receiving treatment in al-Quds and was arrested by the Israeli army three times since the outbreak of the attack on the Gaza Strip, the Last of which was on June 5, through which he confirmed the death of another detainee under torture by the Israeli army, where he stated: "about five days ago I came across a detainee named "Mohammed Al-Kahlout" from the residents of Falluja in northern Gaza, he told me to contact his family out of the net and I didn't know I was going to get out. The next day after our conversation, he died as a result of being tortured, and the army put his body in a plastic bag of death bags and transported him to a place I don't know where. During my detention, there was a group of detainees from the Gaza Strip, and they classified them as security prisoners who were suppressed all day and beat them brutally and indiscriminately all over the body until their blood flowed, Mohammed was killed under torture, which he was subjected to at various times throughout the day,"he said.

In another statement, the elderly man recounted, " S. AR ", 65, for the Euro-Mediterranean team details about his arrest from his home in Jabalia camp and being subjected to torture, enforced disappearance, detention in inhuman barracks and the torture he witnessed of a mute young man, where he stated: "the Israeli army entered Jabalia camp last May, we chose to stay in the house located in al-qasaseb neighborhood, behind the clinic of Jabalia camp agency.

The mechanisms advanced to the area where we live, and the army entered the house where they were, they took us all out, and took me and two of my nephews, after they deported the rest to the western regions. It was on May 21, 2024, when they took us to an unknown destination, from the first moment we were blindfolded and did not know where to go or what was happening around. During the period of our detention, which lasted almost 20 days, it was like 20 years, every day has a story of torture, beatings and humiliation, when bedtime comes, knocking on doors and loudspeakers with disturbing music begin. Food is scarce, a person barely gets a loaf of bread and a little cheese, going to the bathroom is difficult and the way of dealing is humiliating. They didn't take into account that I was 65 years old, I wasn't the oldest, there was a person who was over seventy years old.

We were in a place similar to the" Berks", no one knew where we were, there are a lot of people arriving at this place, which is like a place of detention, and the occupation army is working to deport many of them to places that no one knows. During the period of our detention, there was a person among us who does not speak (a mute), they continued to beat and torture him for several days, they want him to answer them questions and he does not speak. Handcuffs were in our hands from the first moment of arrest, even when we ate and went to the bathroom, our hands were cuffed. They informed us on Monday evening, June 10, 2024, that they would release us, and one of the jailers threatened me: "don't complain anything in front of the press, otherwise we will get to you again". During our release at noon on Tuesday, June 11, in the Zikim area adjacent to the town of Beit Lahiya on the northwestern border, one of the soldiers told us:"you have only four minutes to reach the residential areas, and then whoever I see I will shoot". We started running in the hot weather, despite the rough terrain and the fact that there were no houses in front of us at a great distance,"he said.

The testimonies of the released Palestinian detainees confirm that the Israeli forces continue to use severe torture and reprisals against the Palestinian detainees, despite realizing that they are civilians. The Euro-Med believes that the continuation of this torture is a natural result of the exclusivity of the Palestinian people by Israel in light of the silence of the international community, including the relevant UN bodies.

The Euro-Med highlights the report of the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian territory, including East al-Quds, and Israel, published on June 12, that Palestinians from the Gaza Strip in general, and Palestinian detainees in particular, are subjected to crimes of torture and inhuman treatment, sexual violence, including forced public nudity, including while fainting, tied to a chair while kneeling or with their hands tied behind their backs, interrogated and/or subjected to physical and psychological abuse while naked, and forcing them to perform humiliating acts while naked, such as dancing without clothes while being filmed.

He recalled that the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim Khan, ignored the serious crimes committed by the Israeli security and military forces against Palestinian prisoners and detainees in the Palestinian territories in general, including crimes of unlawful imprisonment, murder, torture, rape, inhuman treatment, enforced disappearance and deliberately causing severe suffering through denial of necessary medical care and denial of a fair trial, especially in light of the existence of many reliable and substantiated international reports issued by human rights and media institutions, which, based on their investigations, confirm the commission of torture and violence against them wide, According to Israeli reports, 36 detainees from the Gaza Strip have been killed in eight months, along with hundreds of horrifying testimonies provided by those released.

Dozens of complaints were also received about sexual violence, including stripping and verbal and sensory harassment, while UN and press reports dealt with at least seven cases of rape against Palestinian women and men detained inside Israeli prisons and detention centers.

The Euro-Mediterranean reiterates its call on the prosecutor general of the International Criminal Court to proceed with the investigation of all crimes committed by Israel against Palestinian prisoners and detainees, expand the circle of investigation of individual criminal responsibility for these crimes to include all those responsible for them, and expedite the issuance of arrest warrants against all of them.

The Euro-Med also calls on the United Nations Special Rapporteur on torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment to assume her real role in accordance with her mandate and adhere to the rules of integrity and independence of her work, including conducting prompt investigations and conducting country visits to investigate the facts of serious violations and serious crimes suffered by detainees, and submitting reports on them, instead of leaving matters to the discretion of Israeli authorities, in order to pave the way for the work of investigative and fact-finding committees and international courts in considering, investigating and conducting trials on crimes committed by the Israeli army against Palestinians of the Gaza Strip.

The Euro-Med called on the international community to put pressure on the Israeli authorities to release all Palestinian detainees who have been arbitrarily detained, and if they are brought to trial, to ensure all fair trial procedures, and to return the remains of Palestinian prisoners and detainees who were killed in Israeli prisons and detention centers.

The Euro-Med also renews its demand for the need to put pressure on Israel to immediately stop committing the crime of enforced disappearance against Palestinian prisoners and detainees from the Gaza Strip, immediately disclose all secret detention camps, disclose the names of all Palestinians detained from the strip, their fate and places of detention, and assume full responsibility for their lives and safety.

It also calls for the announcement of the formation of an independent international commission of Inquiry on crimes committed during the ongoing military offensive on the Gaza Strip, in parallel with enabling the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian territory, which was formed in 2021 to carry out its work, including ensuring its access to the Gaza Strip and opening the necessary investigations into all crimes and violations committed against Palestinians in the Strip, including investigating the circumstances of the murder of all Palestinian prisoners and detainees who died in Israeli prisons, and the Crimes of torture and inhuman treatment suffered by Palestinian women and girls, and all forms of sexual violence .
