ISLAMABAD May 26. 2024 (Saba) - Former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was re-elected as the President of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz on Tuesday.
The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz came to power after the elections on February 8, which the main rival of Sharif, former Prime Minister Imran Khan, claimed were forged.
Sharif held this position for the last time in 2017 when he was forced to resign amidst allegations of corruption. His conviction and sentences were overturned last year, allowing him to hold public or party positions.
Sharif returned to Pakistan from his voluntary exile in London last October, where he went in 2019 for medical treatment, when Khan was in power.
Khan was ousted from power after a vote of no confidence in 2022 and is currently serving sentences for multiple convictions.
