19 people killed, injured as result of two mine explosions in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD May 2. 2024 (Saba) - Pakistani police, On Thursday, announced that one person was killed and at least 18 others were injured as a result of the explosion of two landmines in southwestern Pakistan.

The American Associated Press quoted the district police chief, Asif Halim, as saying: “The first mine exploded as a truck passed through a valley in the coal-rich Doki area in Balochistan province.”

He added: "The second mine exploded when counter-terrorism officials and civilians were examining the site of the initial explosion."

No party has yet claimed responsibility for the explosion, but armed groups had previously launched attacks targeting security forces or infrastructure in the southwest of the country.

A research center in Islamabad said on Thursday: “Armed attacks resulted in the deaths of 70 people across the country during the past month, most of them in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, located in the northwest of the country.”

In turn, the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies said: “The country witnessed 323 armed attacks in the first four months of this year, resulting in the deaths of 324 people.”
