Water projects in Mahweet worth more than 438 million Y.R inaugurated

MAHWEET April 24. 2024 (Saba) - Minister of Water and Environment in the caretaker government Eng. Abdulraqeeb al-Shurmani and Mahweet governor Hanin Qatina have opened eight water projects in the governorate center at a cost of 438 million and 286 thousand Y.R, funded by the Central Emergency Interventions Unit and donor support.

Al-Shurmani and Qatina inaugurated a project to dig and rehabilitate wells, pumping lines, and pumping rooms, at a cost of 93 million and 140 thousand YER, funded by the Central Interventions Unit.

The second phase of the city network rehabilitation and improvement project was also opened, and four solar-powered pumping units were installed, at a cost of 345 million and 142 thousand Y.R, funded by donors and external support.

At the opening, al-Shurmani confirmed that the opening of water projects in Mahweet province translated the directives of revolution leader Sayyed Abdulmalik Badr al-Din al-Houthi, the Supreme Political Council, and the government’s interest in expanding water services and alleviating the suffering of the people of the province.

He pointed out the importance of expanding water services and paying attention to collecting revenues and raising the level of performance, especially in light of the current conditions that the country is going through as a result of the continued aggression and siege.

The Minister and the governor were briefed on the progress of the performance of the local corporation’s water project in the city of Mahweet, the performance of the pumping units, and the progress of work in the solar energy project that is currently being implemented.

They heard from the Director General of the Local Water and Sanitation Corporation in the governorate, Abdul Ghani Al-Qatma, to an explanation about civil works and the installation of panels to generate electrical energy to operate water pumping wells.

During the visit, Minister Al-Sharmani confirmed the Ministry’s readiness to provide facilities and work on everything that would alleviate the suffering of the population and provide their needs for water projects.

They stressed the speedy completion of the project to benefit from it in providing drinking water to citizens in the city of Al-Mahwit and its surrounding areas.
