NEW YORK April 18, 2024 (Saba) - United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres warned on Thursday that the Middle East is "on the verge" of sliding into a "full-blown regional conflict", calling for maximum restraint at this "moment of extreme danger".
Guterres told the UN Security Council that "in Gaza, six and a half months of Zionist military operations have created hell" on the humanitarian front, stressing that two million Palestinians in the devastated strip suffer from "death, destruction, denial of vital humanitarian aid" and hunger.
"It is time to end the bloody cycle of revenge. The international community must work together to prevent any actions that could put the entire Middle East on the brink and have devastating consequences for civilians."
He also called for respect for the sanctity of diplomatic missions after the Zionist raid on the Iranian consulate in Damascus.
It is noteworthy that Iran launched last weekend an unprecedented attack on the Zionist enemy, using hundreds of drones, winged missiles and ballistic missiles, in response to a strike on the first of April targeted the Iranian consulate in Damascus.
