Because of China... Washington seeks to convert oil platforms in Pacific Ocean into missile defense bases
[17/ April/2024]
WASHINGTON April 17. 2024 (Saba) - The American company "Gibbs & Cox" presented the "Modip" project, through which it intends to convert oil platforms in the western Pacific Ocean into mobile missile defense bases to stop exposure to Chinese weapons.

The Asia Times reported on Tuesday that the Modip concept aims to fill gaps in China's missile defense. China's Dongfeng 26 ballistic missiles, nicknamed the "aircraft carrier killer", pose a major threat to U.S. naval forces in the Pacific.

According to the portal "Naval News", after converting oil platforms into missile defense bases, the platforms can be used not only to provide defense, but also to strike the enemy.

In addition, it will be able to act as supply bases for U.S. Navy ships. According to the company, the United States currently has about six oil rigs that can be rebuilt at low cost, and it is expected that it will take about two years to fully adapt them for military use.

Earlier, American analyst Brandon Wehr suggested in an article for The National Interest magazine that the presence of modern missile weapons in Russia and China poses a strategic challenge for the US Navy.
