4.9 magnitude earthquake hits southwest China

BEIJING April 06. 2024 (Saba) - The China Seismological Center announced on Saturday that an earthquake measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale hit southwest China's Yunnan Province, and there was no information on casualties or damage.

The center's report said, according to Chinese media: "The tremor was recorded in the city of Chaotong in Yunnan Province."

He pointed out that "the epicenter of the earthquake is at a depth of ten kilometers."

On Wednesday, Taiwan was hit by its strongest earthquake in 25 years, killing at least nine people and injuring more than 800.

It also damaged dozens of buildings and prompted authorities to issue tsunami warnings.
