Moscow says American veto on Algeria’s draft resolution allows killing of innocent people to continue in Gaza
[22/ February/2024]
MOSCOW February 22. 2024 (Saba) - Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov confirmed on Thursday that the American veto on Algeria’s draft resolution in the UN Security Council regarding Gaza has become a license to continue killing innocent people in the Strip.

Bogdanov said in a statement to Sputnik news agency that “This is a very negative matter, the American veto, and this is not the first time that the Americans have used their veto in order not to pass a resolution calling for an end to the war.”

He added "This is ... a license to continue killing innocent people in Gaza, of whom about 30,000 women and children died."

It is noteworthy that America dropped, on Tuesday, the Algerian draft resolution in the UN Security Council demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, using its “veto” in its face, with reference here to Washington’s use of the “veto” twice previously as part of its support for the Zionist entity since the beginning of the war on Gaza on October 7, 2023.

The Algerian draft resolution was voted on during the Security Council session, and the results of the vote were announced with the approval of 13 members, the United States objected, and Britain abstained from voting.

Algeria's representative to the United Nations Ammar Benjameh commented as saying that his country "will once again demand an end to the bloodbath in Palestine until the Council assumes its responsibilities and imposes an immediate ceasefire."

He pointed out that "the Security Council cannot be complacent in maintaining peace."
