
TEHRAN Jan 02. 2024 (Saba) - The Iranian destroyer Alborz, belonging to the Iranian Army Navy, entered on Monday the Red Sea through the Bab al-Mandab Strait.
Tasnim International News Agency said: The destroyer "Alborz" entered the framework of Group 94 of the Iranian Army Navy.
While Mehr Agency reported that the destroyer is equipped with long-range naval cruise missiles.
"Tasnim" added: The Iranian destroyer "Alborz" has been carrying out its usual mission of preserving navigation security, confronting pirates on the high seas, and other tasks since 2009.
This destroyer joined the naval fleet in Bandar Abbas (southern Iran) in 1972 and underwent several development and modernization operations.
The destroyer weighs 1,550 tons and has a speed of more than 36 knots. The destroyer No. 72 participated in the First Gulf War (the Iran-Iraq War), and its length is 94 meters and its width is 11 metres.
In 2015, the destroyer entered the Bab al-Mandab Strait, and in 2019 it participated in tripartite naval exercises between Russia, China, and Iran. In 2020, it was equipped with precise smart missile systems.
The "Alborz" is considered one of the good defensive destroyers in Iran, after the improvements made to it, and the precise defense system is one of the most important of these improvements.
