Taxes: 25 projects completed, work underway to complete 20 projects by end of year 1445

SANA'A December 17. 2023 (Saba) -The Tax Authority continues its efforts to complete the requirements for institutional work and infrastructure for specific tax projects aimed at achieving a stable environment for tax work, and to move the tax institution from the traditional style to global development.

Despite the conditions of aggression and siege, the Authority was able to bring about a qualitative transformation in the tax work system, especially in the field of strategic projects approved for the years 1444-1447, which crystallized the set of transformations and goals set into practice.

The head of the authority, Abdul Jabbar Ahmed Muhammad, explained that the total tax projects completed during the years 1444-1445 amounted to 25 projects, while work is currently underway to complete the implementation of 20 projects, which are scheduled to be completed during the second half of the current year 1445.

He pointed out that the total tax projects approved in the strategic plan for the years 1444-1447 and being implemented within the national vision for building the modern Yemeni state amount to /74/ projects, of which /29/ projects are planned to be implemented during the years 1446-1447.

He pointed out that the timetable for implementing tax projects focuses on priorities by the prepared plan, tax work data, and the best practices in force at the Arab and regional levels.

Among the projects completed in the electronic technical field is the system for the automatic issuance of the tax number and the electronic tax card, as well as the project for the electronic collection of various tax revenues, not to mention the preparation of more than ten tax guides.

The Authority is also currently working on completing the final touches to a number of digital projects, most notably the public taxpayer accounting system project, updating and correcting the exclusive taxpayer database, in addition to updating and developing mechanisms and means for combating tax evasion.

The head of the authority said: Given the importance of the electronic return, which is considered the basic starting point that embodies the nature and level of the relationship and partnership between the tax administration and taxpayers, the authority has focused on converting the manual tax return process to the electronic system.

He added: In this aspect, the Department has achieved a qualitative leap for the category of senior taxpayers, while efforts continue during the current year 1445 to launch the annual electronic declaration for the category of senior taxpayers, as well as the monthly and annual electronic declaration for the category of average taxpayers.

Abdul-Jabbar Ahmed confirmed that the Authority is doubling its efforts to accelerate the completion of the implementation of the approved projects for the current year because of the importance they represent for moving institutional work to the desired level of ambition.

According to the head of the Tax Authority, by the end of the current Hijri year, several projects will be opened, including the executive unit building for the Qat sales tax and six buildings for model collection centers in Sana'a and the governorates of Hodeidah, Sana’a, Al-Jawf and Taiz.

For his part, the Undersecretary of the Tax Authority for the Technical Sector and Head of the Executive Unit of the National Vision for Building the Modern Yemeni State, Wahid Al-Kabsi, indicated that the vision’s projects are being implemented according to the prepared timetable and with self-financing from the Authority.

He explained that the strategic objective of the projects approved within the determinants of the national vision focuses on the importance of achieving public financial sustainability through expanding and raising the efficiency of collecting, allocating and using public resources.

Al-Kabsi confirmed that the tax projects were approved by the main initiatives of the national vision in the field of raising the efficiency of the tax system and establishing an integrated automated and information tax system.

The head of the Executive Unit for the National Vision at the Tax Authority added that the plan included many projects aimed at developing and strengthening the institutional building of the Authority, building human capabilities, and developing professional and technical skills.
