SANA'A December 11. 2023 (Saba) - The Caretaker Minister of Electricity and Energy, Dr. Muhammad Al-Bukhaiti, discussed on Monday with the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program in Yemen, Zeina Ahmed, the program’s plans to support the electricity and energy sector in Yemen.
In the meeting, which included members of the Activities Regulatory Council, Engineer Ali Aziz, Engineer Abdul Aziz Noman, Abdullah Qarada, and a member of the Technical Advisory Office, Engineer Jamil Al-Abyad, Dr. Al-Bukhaiti stressed the importance of studying the investment plan for recovery in the field of renewable energy 2025-2050 AD, which is being implemented by the “Fernas Shoman” Company.
Global Consultations” working in the field of electricity generation and renewable energy, which is in its final stages with funding from the UNDP, and the final report of the study is expected to be issued within the next two months.
He pointed out that the study includes plans to rehabilitate and strengthen the electricity sector until the year 2050 AD, which will work on developing generation projects with solar energy, wind energy, and geothermal energy, as well as rehabilitating and maintaining current generation stations until they are gradually removed from service, and building new gas-powered generating stations.
The minister stated that the study aims to strengthen and build 400 KV transmission and distribution lines. In addition to the transfer stations as a main goal within the ministry’s plans for the next stages, in addition to training and capacity building programs for the staff of the General Electricity Corporation.
While Zeina Ahmed expressed the readiness of the United Nations Development Program to provide forms of support and consultations for the recovery phase and revitalizing development in Yemen, especially in the electricity and energy sector, because of its importance to the lives of Yemenis.
She praised the interaction of the leadership of the Ministry of Electricity in preparing plans, programs and visions for the success of investment projects in the field of energy.
