[24/ August/2023]
NEW YORK Aug. 24. 2023 (Saba) - Iran's ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations in New York Amir Saied Iravani said that Iran supports the legitimate demands of the Syrian government regarding the withdrawal of all illegal foreign military forces from Syrian territory.

According to Tasnim International News Agency, this came in the Iranian ambassador's speech during the UN Security Council meeting, which was held on Wednesday, to discuss political developments in Syria.

Iravani said Terrorism still constitutes a threat to Syria and the region, and is located in areas outside the control of the Syrian government. He warned against the freedom of movement of terrorist groups, including ISIS, within the Syrian territories controlled by illegal foreign forces, as this is a serious threat to regional peace and security.

Iravani pointed out that the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria is always threatened due to the occupation of some regions of this country by illegal foreign forces, the Zionist aggression and the crimes of terrorist groups there. This increases the suffering of the Syrian people, in addition to the inhumane and illegal sanctions that double the burden on this people.

Iravani added "Sustainable stability in Syria is achieved only by respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of this country."

He continued that Iran strongly condemns the repeated aggression, violation of sovereignty and violation of the territorial integrity of Syria by the Zionist enemy entity.

Iravani called for the resumption of the meetings of the Syrian Constitution Committee as one of the effective mechanisms to advance the political process in Syria, calling on the United Nations to continue its role in the context of facilitating procedures under the full Syrian auspices represented by the government and the Syrian people.

Iravani welcomed the efforts of the United Nations Secretary-General's Special Envoy to Syria,Geir Otto Pedersen, and his contacts with the parties to the conflict to overcome the current impasse in the performance of the Constitutional Committee.

He noted Iran's position in support of Syria's active and growing presence in the region as well as its diplomatic relations at the regional and international levels, Iran's permanent ambassador to the UN called on "Western countries" to reconsider their policies towards this country.

Iravani stressed that this turnaround contributes greatly to reviving peace and prosperity in the region.

The Iranian ambassador concluded his speech by saying the Islamic Republic of Iran is determined to continue cooperation with its partners and make efforts aimed at consolidating normal and sustainable relations that serve stability in Syria.
