Iran: nuclear industry moving towards increasing electricity production to 20,000 megawatts

TEHRAN July 26 2023 (Saba) - Iranian Atomic Energy Organization chairman Mohammad Eslami on Wednesday announced the increasing in electricity production to a ceiling of 20,000 megawatts, in accordance with the plan that was approved and confirmed recently by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution.

The Iranian news agency (IRNA) quoted Esmali as saying today that the most important achievement of the organization is its ability to produce "yellow cake", a term that refers to natural uranium in the form of a powder that is insoluble in water and contains 80% of uranite, from phosphates to add to the radioactive sources representing by the uranium.

He added that fuel-related research was used to use small-sized reactors that use radioactive materials called thulium and molten sodium, stating that in the past years only one power station was planned and implemented, which is the Bushehr Power Station, which continuously produces 1020 megawatts of electricity per hour and pumped 59 million kilowatts an hour of electricity in the grid so far.

Eslami confirmed special efforts are being made to increase the production of electricity to the ceiling of 20,000 megawatts, noting that due to the ups and downs that occurred in the course of the nuclear industry, the realization of this matter was slightly delayed.
