Tehran criticizes statement of foreign ministers of GCC countries on Iran nuclear program
[12/ June/2023]
TEHRAN June 12. 2023 (Saba) - Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani on Monday criticized the statement issued by the 156th meeting of foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council on Iran's nuclear program.

Tasnim International News Agency quoted Kanaani in a statement as saying the statement issued by the Gulf Cooperation Council ministers' meeting on issues related to Iran's nuclear program is inappropriate.

He pointed out that Iran is pursuing its peaceful nuclear program on the basis of its rights and obligations under the Non-Proliferation Treaty and the Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement, in interaction with the concerned countries and the IAEA.

Kanaani reaffirmed Iran's permanent positions, considering the three Iranian islands, Abu Musa, Greater Tunb and Lesser Tunb, an integral and eternal part of the land of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

He went on saying the regional strategy and policy of Iran aims to strengthen and deepen relations with the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and develop the principle of dialogue.

The Iranian spokesman expressed his hope that the countries of the region would look to the future, away from the previous traditional rhetoric, and build new frameworks for cooperation in the region.

He described the developments in the region in recent months as promising and within the framework of the interests of all countries in the region, saying "The countries of the region bear a collective responsibility to advance the interests of the region, and Iran has always supported dialogue and cooperation."
