SPC member inaugurates Yemen Exhibition for Medicines, Devices, Medical Supplies

SANA'A May 30. 2023 (Saba) - Supreme Political Council Mohammed al-Nuaimi on Tuesday inaugurated Yemen Exhibition for Medicines, Devices and Medical Supplies 2023.

Al-Nuaimi and other State's officials briefed on the contents of the exhibition, which includes medicines, devices, and medical supplies for a number of companies.

They listened from the exhibition organizers an explanation of the components of the exhibition.

Ministry of Public Health and Population, in cooperation with the Ministry of Industry, the General Authority for Investment, the Supreme Authority for Medicines and the Chamber of Commerce organized a forum for investment opportunities in the field of medical and pharmaceutical industries, "Investing in pharmaceutical manufacturing...opportunities and challenges".

The forum reviewed axes on the prospects for local manufacturing in light of the national vision and the national strategy for pharmaceutical manufacturing.

The axes of the forum included investment in the field of pharmaceutical manufacturing, promising opportunities, facilities, incentives and challenges, presenting regional and global models and experiences in the localization of technology and quality standards in the pharmaceutical industry, in addition to requirements and facilities to encourage national capital, standards and requirements for good pharmaceutical manufacturing, partnership relations and integration between the importer and the manufacturer.

Al-Nunaim pointed out that there is a will to face challenges to build and advance the country in various fields, including the health and pharmaceutical sectors.

He called on the national capital to exploit investment opportunities and benefit from natural materials, rocks and medicinal herbs in the pharmaceutical industry, pointing out that the government’s approval of draft amendments to income tax laws, sales tax and customs comes in order to protect the local product from import in various sectors.

For his part, Minister of Public Health and Population Taha al-Mutawakil affirmed that Yemen is promising and still needs many factories and investment in this vital and important sector.

Al-Mutawakil considered the Council of Ministers' approval of draft amendments to income tax laws, sales tax and customs an important step to prepare investment and protect the local product in various fields.

He urged the participants in the forum to come up with a vision and practical steps that contribute to the localization of the local industry in Yemen, indicating that the Ministry has approved 62 types of medicines that are manufactured locally on the way to localization of a thousand brands in the coming years.

Minister al-Mutawakil said that the contractual regulation was approved to organize local manufacturing and open the way for importers to manufacture imported items in local factories, in coordination with international companies, according to the necessary standards and controls for good manufacturing and quality standards.
