Endowments: Aggression targeted 1,264 mosques, 50 shrines as losses amounting to YER 30 billion
[30/ March/2023]
SANA'A March 30. 2023 (Saba) - The General Authority for Endowments has revealed the extent of the destruction of endowments, especially mosques, monuments and shrines that were targeted by the US-Saudi aggression during eight years, with an estimated value of YER 30 billion.

Authority's undersecretary for the Mosques and Inheritance Sector Abdullah al-Qudami stressed in a press conference the importance of the conference to inform the public about the extent of the damages and losses that the endowments suffered due to the aggression.

A-Qudami pointed out that the losses amounted to YER 30 billion, which were inflicted on mosques, monuments and historical shrines in general.

He confirmed that the number of mosques targeted by the aggression in 19 provinces amounted to 1,264 mosques, in addition to 50 shrines in seven provinces.

The authority stated that Sa'ada province topped the Yemen's provinces terms of the number of targeted mosques, which amounted to 303 mosques, followed by the Capital Sana'a with 230 mosques, Taiz province with 112 mosques, Hodeida province with 88 mosques, Dhamar province with 80 mosques, Hajjah province with 78 mosques, and Ibb province with 76 mosques.

It indicated that the aggression destroyed 23 shrines in Taiz province, 13 in Hadramout province, five in Lahj province and four in Hodeida.

The authority’s statement indicated that the blockade and the difficult economic conditions left behind the aggression affected all segments of society and the initiative of the beneficiaries of the endowment assets to pay their accumulated rents in favor of the endowments, in addition to the increase in poverty and need among members of society which necessitated the authority to make more efforts to contribute to filling part of this need.

It stressed that the suspension of the budget of many educational and health agencies made the authority bear part of the needs of those agencies, and this represented an additional burden on the endowments.
