HR holds press conference on occasion of eight years of aggression, siege

SANA'A March 23. 2023 (Saba) - The Ministry of Human Rights in partnership with the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, has held a press conference marking the passage of eight years of aggression, siege, international conspiracy and international complicity.

At the conference, Minister of Human Rights Ali al-Dailami confirmed that the international community had conspired against Yemen through several measures that were implemented during the past eight years and before, and it kept preserving the interests of major countries at the expense of the blood of Yemenis and the destruction of their capabilities.

Al-Dailami pointed out that the international position remained silent during 18 days, since the start of the aggression coalition's raids, and did not move a finger, and the positions of most countries of the world differed regarding the violations of Yemeni sovereignty and control of the land, sea and air outlets, despite the international community's realization that military operations and the blockade will cause catastrophic repercussions of the lives of 30 million Yemenis.

He explained that the European political and humanitarian position towards the aggression against Yemen was evident during the past eight years with its generous and comprehensive support for war practices against the Yemeni people through the sale of most various weapons to the countries of aggression and the European Union's rejection of Sana'a's humanitarian demands related to the payment of employees' salaries of civil serivce unit, and the opening of Hodeida port and Sana'a airport, describing those demands as extremist.

Al-Dailami considered the European position a moral and ethical failure, considering the shameful policy of the European Union that has contributed and is contributing to the exacerbation of the suffering of the Yemeni people, adding the aggression coalition's practice obstructing and preventing the entry of relief ships, humanitarian aid and oil derivatives.

He touched on the international complicity towards the decision to transfer the functions of the central bank to Aden province, the looting of Yemen's oil wealth by Saudi Arabia and the UAE, and the deposit of revenues from the sale of oil and gas derivatives in the National Bank of Saudi Arabia, which prevented the payment of salaries to state employees.

Al-Dailami stated that the establishment of the coalition of aggression was done by the United States when the Saudi ambassador announced from Washington, on the night of March 26, 2015 the aggression against Yemen, which proves that America established the international coalition and identified the participating countries which consisting of 18 countries, was managed by America, which provided logistical and military assistance to the coalition countries.

The Minister of Human Rights also confirmed that the countries of the aggression coalition imposed a land, sea and air blockade on the Yemeni people without any international cover to allow them to take these measures, which violate the rules and provisions of international humanitarian law.

He referred to the international complicity and its organizations and bodies towards the aggression and siege on Yemen, where the international position towards the humanitarian file was very negative during the past eight years, indicating that the United Nations was dragging the humanitarian file into the square of political negotiations despite the violation of the rules, provisions and principles of international charters and agreements related to the humanitarian file.

Minister al-Dailami commented on the Saudi regime’s exit from the list of shame, despite its inclusion in the list three times, and its refusal to form an international commission of inquiry on the crimes and violations committed by the aggression coalition in Yemen. The suffering and starvation of the Yemeni people, in addition to the effects of the economic, health, educational, humanitarian and human rights aggression and blockade, in the field of transportation, assaults, violations and crimes against immigrants, expatriates, fishermen, civilians, children and women.

He stopped at the indiscriminate military attacks of the coalition of aggression against civilians in residential buildings, who are covered by international protection, and do not participate in military operations, and there are no military installations or forces near those buildings.

He indicated that the number of civilian casualties as a result of the attacks of the countries of aggression, it reached 49,022 people, including 18,416 martyrs, and 30,606 wounded, and the number of child victims reached eight thousand and 757 children, including four thousand and 15 martyrs and four thousand and 742 wounded.

While the number of female martyrs reached 5,407 citizens, including 2,421 female martyrs and 2,986 wounded, and 34,858 male victims, including 11,980 martyrs and 22,878 wounded.

For her part, Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood Akhlaq al-Shami reviewed the crimes and violations of the countries of aggression against women and children since the first day of the aggression.

Al-Shami reported the martyrdom of 70 civilians in the first raid of the aggression on Bani Hawat area in Bani al-Harith district in, including 29 children, either killed or wounded, stressing that the aggression coalition targeted children in homes, schools, markets, social events and camps for the displaced.

Al-Shami pointed out that, according to civil society reports, the number of people with disabilities has increased from three million before the aggression to 4.5 million now, in addition to dozens of civilians, especially children who face death and disability at every moment, as a result of the remnants of the aggression's weapons.

She presented statistics issued by the Ministry of Education, which showed that more than two million children are out of school, and the number may rise to six million if the conditions of aggression and siege continue, looting salaries and wealth, and targeting infrastructure and service facilities, while 8.1 million children need emergency educational aid all over the country.

She said "According to the Ministry of Education, approximately 3,500 schools are either destroyed or affected, with the closure of about 27 percent of schools throughout Yemen, 66 percent of schools were damaged due to severe violence, and the use of seven percent of schools as shelters for the displaced, as well as Teachers' salaries have been stopped since 2016, which threatens not to continue education. "

Al-Shami added: "Also, 31 percent of Yemen's girls have become out of education as a result of the deteriorating humanitarian conditions and the inability of families to provide basic education needs."

She dealt with the effects of the aggression on the health sector for children, stressing that Yemen recorded the highest mortality rates for children in the Middle East, where about 100 children in every thousand children die live, in addition to the death of 52,000 children annually, which means the death of a child every ten minutes, in return, 65 children die under the age of five out of every thousand children, and that the mothers' death rate increased by 160 percent of what it was before the aggression.

Al-Shami pointed out that the siege on Yemen has increased the rates of malnutrition, adding during the past two years, cases of feeding increased to 6,000,000 people, an increase of 66 percent.

She emphasized that the catastrophic effects of aggression, suffering, crimes and violations occur in light of an unprecedented international conspiracy in history, an ugly international collusion inventory their history, and the blacks of their pages with crimes that will not be submitted by statute of limitations, and stained them with the blood of the Yemenis, led by tens of thousands of children who will be forced sooner or later to pay for their price .

Al -Shami called on the free world to expose the crimes of the aggression coalition against the Yemeni people and to stand responsible towards their rulers and their governments that participated in these horrific crimes.

Undersecretary of the Ministry of Human Rights Ali Tayseer presented a summary of the crimes and violations of the direct and indirect aggression countries over eight years, and its catastrophic effects on Yemen, the land and the human being.

Muath al -Ushari, a citizen, presented the story of the arrest and imprisonment of his sons (Ahmed, 16, and Bashar) by the Saudi authorities, they went there to work and they were accused of unfounded charges, issuing a death sentence against the child Ahmed al -Ushari.

Al-Ushari held the United Nations and the international humanitarian organizations the responsibility to play the role assigned to prevent the death sentence against his son Ahmed, who has not reached the legal age yet.

He stressed that if his appeals are not responded to and his two sons are released, he and his family will be forced to sit in front of the United Nations office in Sana'a and go on hunger strike.
