5.7-magnitude earthquake hits southern Sumatra, Indonesia

JAKARTA March 02.2023 (Saba) - An earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale struck south Sumatra, Indonesia, on Thursday.

The Reuters news agency quoted the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center as saying: The earthquake was at a depth of 47 kilometers below the surface of the earth.. There were no reports of any human injuries or material damage.

It is worth mentioning that Indonesia is located on the Pacific Ring of Fire, where tectonic plates meet and their friction leads to earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
