Discussing WFP interventions expansion in Hodeida province
[07/ February/2023]

HODEIDA February 07. 2023 (Saba) - The Governor of Hodeida, Muhammad Qahim, discussed on Tuesday with the WFP’s Deputy Executive Director for programme,Valerie Newsom Guarnieri, aspects related to the expansion of the program's relief and humanitarian interventions in the province.

During the meeting, which was attended by the resident representative of the program in Yemen, Richard Ragan, Governor Qahim reviewed the humanitarian situation experienced by thousands of poor, affected and displaced families as a result of the aggression, siege and escalation in the province and the resulting difficult repercussions.

He explained that the need for humanitarian aid is still great and calls for expanding interventions to include more affected people in many areas of the province's districts to alleviate their suffering, stressing the keenness of the local authority and the Humanitarian Affairs Council to provide all facilities for the program to reach the largest number of poor and displaced families.

In turn, the Senior Undersecretary of the province, Ahmed Al-Bishri, noted the positive role of the World Food Program in assisting the displaced and the poor, and the good level of coordination in delivering aid, indicating that there were no problems between the local authority and the program about collecting data for those who are eligible for aid or others.

He stressed the importance of accommodating the governorate's needs for more emergency interventions in providing food for the poorest families who are not covered by aid as a result of the worsening humanitarian situation as a result of the ongoing blockade and the harsh living conditions of the districts that have been subjected to escalation.

For his part, the director of the branch of the Supreme Council for the Management and Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in the governorate, Jaber Al-Razehi, indicated that the WFP's interventions in Hodeidah are not sufficient, as the need is great and constantly increasing.

While Guarnieri explained, the program is keen to strengthen cooperation and partnership with the local authority in the governorate and the Supreme Council to continue providing humanitarian aid and work to expand it.

She stressed that she will seek donors to collect more humanitarian aid for the needy in Yemen in general and Hodeidah Governorate in particular.
