International reactions to help Turkey & Syria overcome earthquake effects

CAPITALS February 06. 2023 (Saba) - Azerbaijan announced its intention to send special emergency teams to provide support and assistance in combating the effects of the devastating earthquake that struck Turkey at Monday dawn.

And the Azerbaijani Emergency Service stated, in its statement, that, "On the instructions of the Azerbaijani President, Ilham Aliyev, Azerbaijan has proceeded to prepare 370 emergency personnel to send them to Turkey, to assist in search and rescue operations, and to combat the effects of the devastating earthquake that struck Turkish territory at dawn today."

In the same context, the Kazakh President, Kassym-Jomart, expressed his deep condolences to the Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, for the earthquake victims, and declared Astana's readiness to provide the necessary assistance to Turkey to overcome the consequences of the devastating earthquake.

"At this difficult moment, on my own behalf and on behalf of the Kazakh people, I offer my sincere condolences to the families of the victims, and to the entire brotherly Turkish people," the statement said, quoting Jomart.

On the other hand, the European Union announced its readiness to provide the necessary assistance to Syria and Turkey, following the devastating earthquake that struck Turkey at dawn today, claiming hundreds of lives.

The Italian Deputy Prime Minister, Antonio Tajani, also stated that Italy will send specialized rescue teams to Turkey to help combat the effects of the devastating earthquake.

Tajani also expressed his support for the Syrian people, "who suffered another heavy blow" after many years of war, and confirmed that the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is in contact with all Italians living in the earthquake-affected areas.

A 7.4-magnitude earthquake hit Kahramanmaraş province in Turkey at dawn today, destroying a number of cities, killing 284 people, and injuring more than 2,300 people.

Damage was also reported in several regions of Syria. The earthquake was also felt in the Lebanese capital, Beirut. According to the Syrian Ministry of Health, 237 people were killed and 639 injured as a result of the earthquake.
