DAMASCUS February 06. 2023 (Saba) - Syrian President Bashar al-Assad chaired an emergency meeting of the Council of Ministers Monday morning to discuss the repercussions of the 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck Syria at dawn today, causing hundreds of victims, a large number of injuries, and the collapse and cracking of dozens of residential buildings.

And the official media in Syria reported that there were large casualties and destruction in separate areas in Syria as a result of the strong earthquake that struck southern Turkey and the eastern Mediterranean region.

And the Syrian Ministry of Health announced that the death toll from the earthquake had risen to 237 deaths and 639 injuries in the governorates of Aleppo, Latakia, Hama, and Tartous as a result of the devastating earthquake.

And the Syrian News Agency "SANA" reported that during the meeting chaired by Al-Assad, the current initial situation was assessed after the major earthquake, and the most affected governorates and locations were identified, which were concentrated more in the governorates of Aleppo, Hama and Latakia.

Based on the current reality, an emergency action plan was developed at the national level, led by a central operations room operating around the clock, in addition to field teams on the ground.

Al-Assad instructed the concerned ministers to go to the governorates to directly supervise the operating rooms and mobilize all available capabilities in the governorates to deal with this ordeal. In parallel, the central operations room in Damascus follows all developments and takes the necessary measures to support the operating rooms in the governorates.
