Explosions & fire at gas pipeline in Turkey's Hatay caused by earthquake

ANKARA February 06. 2023 (Saba) - Turkish media sources revealed Monday that explosions and fire occurred in two sections of a gas pipeline in the Turkish city of Hatay, as a result of the devastating earthquake that struck southern Turkey and northwestern Syria.

The Turkish news agency İhlas said that the Turkish authorities decided to suspend the supply of gas to a number of areas located near the epicenters of the earthquakes.

The Turkish energy company "BOTAŞ" had reported that the devastating earthquake did not affect the operation of oil pipelines in the country.


It indicated that it was decided to suspend gas supplies to a number of areas near the epicenter as a precautionary measure.

And by 04:17 local Turkish time, an earthquake measuring 7.4 on the Richter scale occurred in the province of "Kahramanmaraş" in Turkey, which led to destruction in a number of cities. The earthquake also affected several Syrian regions, and the residents of the Lebanese capital, Beirut, felt the earthquake.

The death toll and injuries as a result of the earthquake, as of the time of publication of the news, amounted to 76 deaths and 440 others injured in seven Turkish provinces, according to what was announced by the Turkish authorities, while the Syrian authorities reported the death of 237 people and the injury of 639.
