SANA'A December 07. 2022 (Saba) - The National Women's Committee in cooperation with the Supreme Council for Humanitarian Affairs and International Cooperation, organized on Wednesday in Sana'a a workshop for a 16-day campaign to combat violence against women, "under the slogan: Women are the sisters of men, so be kind to them."
The workshop, supported by the United Nations Population Fund and Women's Protection Block reviewed four working papers on the situation of Yemeni women.
With the participation of 120 working women in government agencies and local and international organizations, the first working paper, presented by Chairperson of the National Committee for Women Dr. Ghada Abu Talib, focused on the needs of Muslim women in order to protect themselves, stressing that Islam is a religion that is keen on protecting and preserving women and raising their status in society.
It referred to the suffering and violation of Yemeni women's rights as a result of the aggression that targeted homes, residential neighborhoods, schools and hospitals, explaining that the aggression deliberately killed, injured and disabled many women and caused the displacement of thousands of families from their homes.
The second working paper presented by Director of the Women and Children Department at the Supreme Council for Humanitarian Affairs, Amat al-Malik al-Khashab, focused on the situation of displaced Yemeni women and the neglect they suffer from, as well as the poor performance of international humanitarian organizations in protecting displaced women and providing them with means of subsistence.
While the third working paper delivered by Director of Women's Development at the Ministry of Human Rights Mona al-Saqqaf, dealt with the situation of Yemeni women in light of the aggression, stressing that the aggression committed crimes against Yemeni women for eight years in light of a shameful international silence.
Director of the General Department for Family Protection at the Ministry of Interior Dr. Ibtisam al-Mutawakil, presented the fourth working paper entitled "Women between Incidents of Violence and the Reality of Protection", stressing the importance of carrying out awareness campaigns on the legal and legitimate rights guaranteed to women.
Head of the Department of International Cooperation in the Supreme Council for Humanitarian Affairs Dr. Ali al-Kuhlani indicated that Yemeni women are the most affected by the aggression.
He considered the biggest violence that Yemeni women are exposed to, is the silence of the United Nations and international organizations about the crimes and violations committed by the aggression against them.
Al-Kuhlani affirmed that Islam raised the status of women and provided sufficient means to protect and preserve them, pointing to several forms of suffering that women were subjected to as a result of international aggression and silence.
The participants in the workshop emphasized the need to implement international conventions on the protection of women during armed conflicts, as well as educating women and arming them with Quranic culture and faith identity to face the dangers and false culture about Islam.
