Eight dead after heavy torrential rains in Hajjah

HAJJAH, Aug. 03 (Saba) - Eight citizens died and two others were missing due to heavy torrential rains in Hajjah province, a security official said on Wednesday.

The official added the torrents swept away six citizens of one family while they were in a waterway in Bani Haidan area, which led to the death of four of them and the loss of two, while one of the citizens' homes in the same area was hit by thunderbolts, which led to the death of a woman.

He confirmed the death of two citizens in al-Shahel district and the injury of ten others while they were opening water passages for their farms.

The official noted that the bodies of the deceased were recovered and the injured were transferred to health facilities.

He stated that a citizen in Mabyan district died as a result of a thunderbolt.

The official warned citizens to avoid being in the valleys and streams of torrents in order to preserve their safety, pointing out that the torrents washed away a number of cars and motorcycles, causing the interruption of many roads linking villages, the isolation of the districts in the province.

Meanwhile, the branch of the Supreme Council for the Management and Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Hajjah launched a distress call for humanitarian partners to carry out their duty to alleviate the suffering of those affected by the rains and torrential rains.

Director of the branch, Allan Fadhael confirmed that more than 5,000 houses were damaged, and many agricultural lands in the districts were washed away due to rain and torrential rain.
