SANA'A, July.02 (Saba) - The Executive Center for Mine Action called on the United Nations and humanitarian organizations to make efforts to urgently provide detectors to clear areas contaminated with mines, cluster bombs and remnants of war.
In a statement, a copy of which was received by Yemeni News Agency (Saba), the center urged the United Nations and humanitarian organizations to continue supporting the center's activities so that it could secure tens of thousands of Yemenis lives from the remnants of war.
The failure to provide the necessary equipment for the center to clear mines, cluster bombs and remnants of war during the past 7 years was considered a humanitarian crime and an underestimation of lives and thousands of civilians lives in Yemen and the transformation of a large segment of them into the disabled and the dead.
The center’s statement said, “In light of the humanitarian truce currently underway under the auspices of the UN envoy to Yemen, and with the continued fall of civilians in Yemen due to mines and remnants of war, the center suffers from a lack of field work requirements and the lack of detection devices, which are considered among the basic humanitarian needs of civilians in Yemen, and an exception was made. The file of cluster bombs, mines and remnants of war as part of humanitarian treatments during the armistice.
The center’s statement added, "We, at the Executive Center for Mine Action, express our deep regret over the number of victims as a result of the remnants of war, and we share the victims' families' grief over the loss and injury of their relatives in most Yemeni provinces, especially in Al- Hodeida ".
The statement indicated that 62 civilian casualties were recorded between martyrs and wounded in Hodeida, Sa'ada, Sana'a, Al-Jawf, Hajjah, Taiz, Marib, Al-Dhale' and Ibb provinces during the past June, most of them were children and women.
The statement renewed the call for local media, activists and mosque preachers in all provinces and district contaminated with the remnants of war, to play their role in highlighting the suffering of the victims and communities affected by the remnants of war and to contribute to raising citizens' awareness of mines and remnants of war dangers.
