SANA'A, Jan. 30 (Saba) - The role of the Yemeni Civil Defense Department is manifested during the current phase in protecting the Yemeni people from disasters of all kinds, especially in light of the deliberate targeting of homes, markets, hospitals by the US-Saudi aggression.
The tasks of the Civil Defense Service are compounded under the conditions of war and aggression, which have made its activity an exceptional work to cope with emergency situations as well as the difficulties and challenges it faces in saving lives during fires and natural disasters.
Among the tasks of civil defense, the awareness work and educational activities to raise awareness and culture of the society in security and safety, which calls for the provision of funding to import materials and needs for fire, safety, and civil defense requirements.
In this regard, Colonel Khaled Al-Sharahi, Director of Public Relations and Guidance at the Civil Defense Department, stressed the importance of the media's role in educating the community about the dangers of natural disasters, as well as, the aggression continues to target civilians and residential areas.
Al-Sharahi pointed out that the role of the media is important during the current phase, in promoting awareness of how to preserve lives and protect the community in the event of natural disasters, fire accidents, and others.
Colonel Al-Sharahi stressed the need for media professionals to be aware of the tasks, competence and duties of civil defense in the face of emergency situations, especially in light of the targeting of hospitals, schools, and civilian homes even wedding ceremonies and condolences by the US-Saudi aggression.
He stressed the presence of civil defense personnel and their readiness to face such disasters as well as strengthening the role of the media through security and safety measures.
"The community considers that civil defense tasks are limited to extinguishing fires, Although the functions of the interest are broad and complex," he said.. clarifying the Civil defense is the only body that interferes with state facilities and institutions.
And about treatments to promote community awareness of security and safety, the Director of Public Relations and Guidance of the Department pointed out the importance of intensifying awareness programs and educational courses in schools, universities, companies, factories and government and non-governmental facilities.
"Awareness flashes must be placed in the face of disasters, flood risks, rock collapses, oil derivatives, domestic gas, dams, and barriers, and it's published in the media, to ensure a mature community awareness," he said.
He touched on the need to hold awareness training courses in state facilities, agencies, and institutions..considering the security media as an official spokesman for the Ministry of Interior, it has great responsibilities in disseminating news, information, programs, and civil defense awareness.
"The role of the Civil Defense during the bombing of the U.S.-Saudi aggression is to move immediately after shelling or targeting homes, neighborhoods, or residential areas, and intervene to extinguish fires and recover bodies," colonel al-Sharahi added.
He called on the international community to take responsibility for condemning the bombing of civilian installations and objects as a flagrant violation of international and humanitarian norms, conventions, and laws.. noting that Yemen's civil defense is a member of the International Organization for Civil Protection in Geneva.
