Yemen, FAO discuss cooperation to combat locust plague

SANA'A, June 14 (Saba) - Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation Radhwan al-Rubai has discussed with representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Yemen Hussein Jadin the cooperation to combat the locust plague that threatens agriculture crops and food security in the country. 

 

In the meeting held on Sunday, al-Rubai and Jadin reviewed comment on a project draft on the Desert Locust Response in Yemen.

 

Al-Rubai noted that the Ministry of Agriculture had not participated in preparing the document, which led to so some important remarks against the draft.

 

He said that there are some points that contradict the values ​​of the Yemeni society and its faith identity and destroy the spirit of productivity.

 

The Deputy Minister of Agriculture stressed the need to identify the activities and programs to be supported and funded, especially those concerned with desert locust control projects and activities.

 

He also stressed the importance of absorbing all the Ministry's remarks on the project draft, in a way that contributes to improving and developing the components and objectives of the project so that it will be a model project to help control programs of locust which is a regional plague.

 

The FAO's representative expressed readiness to absorb the comments and coordinate for more clarifications and discussions to improve the project that include surveys and control measures, protection, rehabilitation of livelihoods, preparedness for early warning and project management.
