Agriculture Ministry ruins FAO rotten seeds

HODEIDA, Apr. 12 (Saba) - The Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation (MAI) ruined on Monday a large number of rotten seeds in Hodeida province, provided by FAO.

The amount ruined was estimated at more than 240 tons of rotten seeds provided by FAO, which would have been distributed to farmers in Yemen.

Abdul Wahab al-Khail, director general of legal affairs at the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, explained that the amount destroyed was from the gifts of organizations such as FAO, which says it came to help Yemeni farmers. He pointed out that these seeds are toxic seeds and seeds that are deadly at the level of agricultural crops and even affect the soil.

He pointed out that the amount discovered of rotten seeds after examination and laboratory scrutiny by specialists in the General Administration of Control of Production Supplies and the General Foundation for Seed Breeding is estimated at more than 400 tons, which turned out to be infected with fungi and is not suitable for agriculture, was provided by FAO as an aid and grant to farmers.
