Humanitarian Affairs Council warns against taking civilians as human shields
[19/ February/2021]

SANA'A, Feb. 19 (Saba) - The Supreme Council for the Management and Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and International Cooperation stood in the face of the acceleration of field events in the city of Marib, and the wave of displacement they caused to families.

International statements expressed concern about the escalation of the displacement movement and what these families will suffer after the aggression coalition and its mercenaries used the civilians as human shields.

In a statement Saba received a copy of, the Council expressed its deep regret for the determination of the Islah Party militia and the coalition to use civilians as human shields and not to open safe humanitarian corridors to cross civilians and try to use them as a pressure card before the international community and organizations with the aim of stopping the progress of the army and popular committees.

The Council held the coalition and its mercenaries criminally responsible, in the event that civilians were subjected to any harm, as a result of using them as human shields by placing them in camps in military areas where clashes take place on the outskirts of the city of Marib.

The Council called upon the international community and human rights organizations to intervene to put an end to the practices of the aggression coalition and its mercenaries and to spare civilians and displaced people the scourge and consequences of the battles and not to barricade themselves behind them.

The Council reaffirmed that it is closely following the situation and making all necessary preparations to receive all displaced families from the city of Marib and to provide all the necessary needs for them.
